So... I've seen the trailer for this (I actually saw it several months ago). I'm still afraid of what Joel Schummacher is going to do to one of my favorite musicals... However, I'm slightly comforted by the fact that the trailer doesn't look that bad and does not contain the slightest hint of neon...
After a little over a week of cataloging and reorganizing, I'm very happy to say that I've finished reorganizing the library... in my office... all 1226 books...
I definately feel better now...
My library has gone from this:
to THIS!!

Okay... so I know it doesn't look a THAT much different... and no, I haven't really dusted either. **cough, sneeze** but I've never been one for dusting anyway...
After this though, getting to the books in the rest of the house should be easy... It's getting back to doing the same to my CD collection that's gonna be a bitch...
As an early/late birthday present to myself, I just pre-ordered my copy of Return of the King... Early because my birthday's not for another 2 months... Late because the order won't ship until 9 days after my birthday.
Just finished watching my new copy of X-2...
Hehe!!
You know? I think the only thing that would make me cry at the end of
that movie would be if they somehow DIDN'T do the Phoenix storyline for
X-Men 3...
I've also found out that someone made an OMG's
quiz...

Which Oh My Gods! Character are You?
brought to you by Quizilla
BTW: I finally watched my copy of From Hell this weekend... I should have waited until next year to do that. I suddenly have images of Bilbo Baggins playing Jack the Ripper... ::shudder::
... Otherwise, it was a good movie...
Woah... I've just found myself listening to a Darkwave/Techno version of
White Rabbit. Duuuuuuuddddddeeee.....
Today saw the arrival of 3 orders of goodies from Amazon.com. These orders included 3 expansion packs for The Sims, The Analects of Confucius, a giant copy of The Tale of Genji and 2 vampire romance novels (which is to say they're romance novels involving vampire but they're and only differ from most vampire novels I own by the even more gratuitous sex scenes...)
For someone who's not me, I'm sure this would be a rather strange combination of stuff... But then we should consider the Von Daiken, Gore Vidal and cook books I still have on order....
It's sad to think that I can pay off my one remaining credit card just so I can run it up again. But I now have more memory and a new hard drive ordered for Big Geek, as well as more Sims stuff, some books I've been needing to get and a brand new OSB mug.
So I finished reading The Crow: Wicked Prayer last week. According to IMDB and Wizard Magazine, this book is what they're basing the next movie on. Decent pick for the first adaptation of a Crow story since well... the original movie...
I found the blurb about the movie in Wizard and the title sounded familiar... Gee... I wonder why... The book's only been sitting on my shelf since it was published. So out of curiosity and a need to give my mind a break from reading Dune (gotta get back to that series eventually), I pulled it off the shelf and started reading.
Now I've only managed to get my hands on a couple of the Crow books that have been published, this one and the one Somtow did (which is also pretty good but really twisted), so I don't have a whole lot of perspective on what's been published. But I think that if they can do this one right, it'll be a pretty decent movie.
Esowolf, of course, will probably not agree with me on this. I'm still trying to get her to see Salvation, if for no other reason than the fact that it totally makes up for City of Angels (which is another movie that doesn't exist in my world) and she and I don't agree on the TV series, which I thought was pretty good.
But I digress... After having read the book, I'm kinda hoping that Wicked Prayer gets off the ground and made. There's a lost of good black magic and Native American mysticism that make for a good story... not to mention a great take on the Crow mythos with regard to who gets chosen, what happens after their mission has been fulfilled and what were to happen of the wrong person got a hold of the power of the Crow.
I think this will be really interesting....
I loaded up Kazaa tonight to download the Children of Dune soundtrack. It's not just that I can't afford to buy it... It's the theme song that's been running through my mind since last weekend. I know the mini series on Sci-Fi deviates from the books in places but I haven't finished Children of Dune to know how much. It doesn't really matter though...
It's predicessor, Sci-Fi's Dune mini series is what finally inspired me to start reading the books. The original movie of Dune was really corny and not that I didn't like most of the actors (Sting mostly naked ::drool::, etc) in the movie but in comparison, it's rather lame and doesn't do the first book the same justice the Sci-Fi channel's been able to do. Let's face it... there's some stuff you just can't cram into a 2 or 3 hour movie (cough *Lord of the Rings* cough).
I'm beginning to understand why these books are so classic. The ideas and concepts in those books are mind boggling. Mind bending really. There's a philosophy here... a take on philosophy, religion, war, peace, the human condition... And something very ancient in me that knows exactly what's happening.
There's something very ironic that Sci-Fi choose now of all times to air both Dune and Children of Dune... It's also depressing in a way, since this story is supposed to take place 10,000 years into the future and nothing about human nature seems to have changed. Humans did away with computers, most technology and supposedly became more suffisticated and yet there is still war and deception and greed. And yet in this one family's efforts to change humanity for the better are constantly misinterperated. Turned into gods and trapped by their own mythos, they are forced to destroy themselves in order to tear down what human kind has made of them... sound familiar? The curse of any prophet, messiah and decent person who happens to reach people and make an effort to get them to change, to see that things can't continue the way they are. And for a time, their words seem to reach until they're corrupted by religion and dogma and politics and government and institution.
So many statements in Frank Herbert's books ring true but one stays with me... speaking to that part of me that is as old as eternity itself: "When religion and government ride in the same cart, the whirlwind follows."
And I await the whirlwind.
WHAAAAA!!! Buffy Season 4, Stargate Season 3 and Babylon 5 Season 2 will all be out within the next 4 months... Gods I hate being poor...
Why am I here? Why am I working today? Oh wait... I need the money. I suppose I should feel fortunate that I'm working when others aren't... Right now though, it's just one big dose of BLAH...
Christmas was a bit of a blur. Mom and I (mostly me) spent 3 straight days baking, reaffirming that yes, I do want to be a pastry chef when I'm done with school. I'd rather be doing that than sitting on my ass here... but oh well. 8 more months and I'll be out, with any luck.
I started Summoner last night. It's a weird game... kind of like Vagrant Story in it's fighting engine but still weird... the THQ flat face thing makes it weird when the characters are actually speaking.
Went to see Two Towers on Christmas Eve. ::drools:: Lots of beauty in that movie. Beautiful scenery, beautiful effects, beautiful fights, beautiful men... And can I just say that Legolas is a total badass... I really can't be that much of a dwarf... I'm too attracted to all those elves.
Just when I though I'd heard everything... I'm exposed to Celtic Rap...
I'm not sure if I should be scared or not....
Now here's a sign of the times. Tron turns twenty years old and they FINALLY decide to release the soundtrack! I've been looking for a sound track to this movie for TEN YEARS!!! I bought all four volumes of the Sci-Fi Channels Greatest Hits just because Tron was one of the tracks. I guess enough geeks have finally taken control of the media industries. And on January 29th, the soundtrack will be mine!!
::Yawn:: I knew I shouldn't have started playing Spyro 2 last night... Never stay up all night playing video games when you've planned on going into work early.
You know? I never realized how many books I had untiil I had to reshelve them all yesterday. Thanks to Dad, one wall of my room looks like an actual library right now.
::Yawn:: Time for this dragon to go to bed...
But one last thing... I realize that this is probably a bad time to joke about recent events, but I just had to share this shot of the most interesting wrestling match I've seen in the last 3 months:
